The process of enacting legislation in Connecticut can move very quickly and be very confusing to the average citizen. Public hearings could be held with very short notice. Committee votes can be announced with less than a days notice. The speed and technicalities of the legislative process can leave even the most astute political insider confused at times.

"In the Catholic Tradition, responsible citizenship is a virtue, and participation in political life is a moral obligation." ("Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship", USCCB)

Over the next several months, the Connecticut Catholic Public Affairs Conference will make every effort to inform you on how the candidates stand on the issues. Even more importantly, is how current office holders, seeking to be re-elected, have voted on various state and federal issues. We will also take a look at some of their public statements. Voters need to be educated and we hope to be a part of that process.  Watch for upcoming information.

The Connecticut General Assembly will convene in January 2023 to once again begin the legislative process. In order to keep our network members better informed, the CCPAC plans to more fully utilize mobile texting. Know as soon as we do when a hearing or vote will be taken on a piece of legislation of interest. Texting is the best way for the CCPAC to reach its members when time to act is very limited.

The CCPAC also understands the need to limit its sending of text messages to its members. We will only send text messages when absolutely necessary.

Free Lunch Program Funds in Jeopardy at Catholic Schools Due to Biden Admin LGBT Rule Change

The current free school lunch program for low-income students, operated by the United States Department of Agriculture, has been turned into a tool to force schools, public and private, to comply with the Biden Administration's redefinition of sex. Many people may think that private Catholic schools do not deliver services to low-income students. This vision of the Catholic educational system is false. Fifty-two percent of U.S. Catholic schools participate in the federal lunch program. Using the federal free lunch program, to force compliance with new regulations concerning the LGBT issue, is a misdirected approach that may end up hurting the wellbeing of thousands of children.
