Stop Abortion in the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act
The Connecticut Catholic Public Affairs Conference is passing this action alert along to our members from the CatholicVotes organization. Please read it and submit testimony to the EEOC
After months of delay, the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) – the agency responsible for enforcing discrimination laws – finally issued its rules surrounding the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA). And it’s not good.
The Biden administration is using the PWFA to establish a national mandate forcing employers to accommodate workers' abortions. BUT we have 60 days to tell them NO.

Stop Abortion in the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act

After months of delay, the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) – the agency responsible for enforcing discrimination laws – finally issued its rules surrounding the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA). And it’s not good.
The Biden administration is using the PWFA to establish a national mandate forcing employers to accommodate workers' abortions. BUT we have 60 days to tell them NO.
It gets worse…If you employ more than 15 people, you are now on the hook not only for “abortion leave,” but also for fertility treatments including in vitro fertilization, a practice condemned by the Catholic Church because it involves the destruction of unborn human lives in a lab.
And worse... the regulation as it stands now, also threatens the religious freedom of all pro-life Americans. Apologists for the EEOC are promising that the abortion provisions won’t apply to religious employers (churches, schools, charities, etc.) “with respect to the employment of individuals of a particular religion.” In other words: A Catholic employer will not have to accommodate the abortions or IVF procedures of its Catholic workers, but Catholic employers COULD have to cover these services for non-Catholic employees.
Yet again, Democrats have found a new way to further divide America by compelling people of faith to violate their conscience and deeply held beliefs. Under these regulations, Protestants will be dissuaded from hiring Catholics, Catholics from hiring Muslims, Muslims from hiring Jews, etc.
But it’s not too late for us to stop this divisive, un-American, radical pro-abortion policy. The rule is now open for a 60-day period during which YOU can comment with your objections. We’ve made some suggestions and offered a form letter, but remember: it’s important to put it in your own words. The EEOC is bound by law to read every… single… comment it receives. Let’s give them plenty of late summer reading material. In particular, they’re asking for comments on whether or not to provide more specific “religious organization provisions” in its rules. Answer: YES.
