Pro-Abortion Forum Sponsored by State Attorney General William Tong on Anniversary of Dobb’s Decision - Support for Unlimited Abortion Rights

Connecticut's Attorney General, William Tong, held a forum on June 22nd at the Legislative Office Building to express his support for unlimited abortion rights in our state. The forum was intended to coincide with the one year anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court's Dobbs decision, which reversed Rowe v Wade.  The forum made it very clear that pro-life citizens of Connecticut have a tough fight ahead of them in their efforts to obtain any abortion related limitations, such as parental notification when a minor seeks an abortion. Those attending the forum constantly referred to citizens supporting abortion restrictions as  right-wing extremists. The Attorney General also appointed two attorneys in his office to act as Special Counsels on abortion rights. Read more below.

U.S. Catholic Bishops to Create Guidelines for Transgender Health Care in Catholic Institutions

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops voted unanimously at their annual meeting this month to authorize their doctrine-crafting body to come up with a proposal concerning medical guidelines related to transgender procedures and medical practices. The proposal would be a revision to the Ethical and Religious Directives — or ERDs — that are binding on the vast network of Catholic hospitals, physicians’ systems, surgery centers and urgent-care centers.

The new directives will be based on a document adopted by the bishops in March of this year entitled "Doctrinal Note on the Moral Limits to Technological Manipulation of the Human Body."  This document is in line with the position of Pope Francis on gender ideology expressed in an interview also published in March. We encourage you to read both of bishops document and the Pope's statement to better understand Catholic teaching on this issue.

What is Connecticut state policy?  Read the guidance given to Connecticut public schools. Basically, parents have no right to be informed. It even recommends that the school should encourage parents to go for counseling to help accept the child's decision. Catholic teaching is that the parents are the primary caretaker and educator of their children. This policy directly conflicts with that teaching, among others.
